Having another moment…

So I feel the need to put some words down as its been ages and It’s not from not wanting to writing or tell you my stories but I needed time on my own.

A lots happened let’s see lived on a coffee farm for two months and built 9mtr high domes for people to sleep in, bribed a cop $50 for a motoring offence  which in the grand scheme if things was cheap as the original opening bid was $300, the end of the world on the 21st was an event in its self but i lived on – a bet a slightly more clearer in thoughts and feelings!  after that well buying home made explosives which was labeled a firework from a totally piss drunk Colombian who proceeded on telling me the only way to let off a five foot rocket is to hold onto it while lighting the fuse but stand up high on a chair, a wall or some thing like that and when really starts to light up and smoke comes out then let go – I didnt know what’s more funny been told to hold a home made firework while you light it or a 5.3 Colombian man telling me to be taller when I’m doing it? Ah yes and the superfreak of a man I once heald as a hero is a doping, hormone changing experiment who won 7 big loops of France and a few other countries while sitting on a bike.

But not to worry after he’s gone around and told everyone how sorry he is and it was him and no one else he’ll give back some of his money but still he will be left with a fat stack. So then PR man Bill Stapelton will work some more magic and he’ll return with another book call it “It was all about the drugs” explain how he did it and… Well can anyone see a pattern forming here?

I can’t take the credit for the ‘another book’ joke that needs to be given to someone else but what I hate is the fact that I spent hours of my life discussing is he is he not on drugs and all along my friend was right – now does that mean I should listen to him more often – never the bastard will be wrong some times. On this occasion tho he called it spot on and will hold it over me I’m sure but the piece I get from all if it is people always look at the same issue/problem/event in many different ways and friends that are different or seem one way can infact be quite the opposite.

So where is this written thought going – well I’m on a 11/12hrs bus ride racing for the Mexican border after spending 4 days with a couple of lads that some how helps me explain what travelling is for me at this moment on my journey.  I feel you go through a lot of different emotions pending how you feel at that certain point in time or at your journeys stage and people come into your life and well for me now – push you in a direction where you once though was wrong, against the norm or not conforming with what everyone else was doing, for me this is or I can now say was frustrating.

So take the two dudes who are here to do everything that central America offers and consume a lot of beer and rum in between. Coming in from Jackson beach Florida after doing stint in the US navy you kind think oh no here we go again more (propper) gringo travelers – well not quite after you get past the mathamatics wizard and rescue swimmer and go another level there you get a self taught pianist, guitarist and a load of other instruments.  This is where the similarity between us is getting more interesting you see at school I was forced to learn shit that i just didn’t give a Fuck about don’t get me wrong some of it was really interesting and I was good at it but a lot of the other stuff I was useless at it and making me do something I don’t like well put it to you this way at the end of the warm temperature conversation you never heard the words ok “I’ll go and do that right away” come out of my mouth!

I’m sure if i wanted piano lessons at school my olds would have given me the opportunity – it would come from extra activities after school which they would of course have to pay for god actually help me that I might try it in music class to see if i like it first no see where I went to school the person who was good at music in the class got to shine and takes the teachers attention.  So what about my new buddy who is the mathematical whiz he had a better school life – nope hated it, board out of his Bollox because he spent his time waiting for the class to catch up to his level. Ok yes after school you can focus on one special subject and then emerce in it for years and when youve had enough you can leave with a bit of paper that tells you well done and you also get a negative bank balance over your head….. Sounds like a great start in my book!

Now to put another twist to this; technology. Now learn needs to be given a lot more thought – thankfully at a maths exam your allowed to use a calculator I mean why would you want to slow down your thinking with doing what is a simple and quick problem for a calculator? Yes you need to understand the basics in order to work the calculator so basic learning is still required but what kid doesnt like learning about new things that they enjoy or ‘get’!

So the internet, a laptop and a child – what age do you put those together? Let’s face it technology is rapidly moving in an vertical direction our learning is not its not going the opposite way.  Two things I need to say but not elaborate on – internet and a smart phone. We already hold nearly every answer at our finger tips how long will it be before our technology can be downloaded to us, been looking into that one and It’s not that impossible currently a professor at reading uni installed a chip into his body so when he walks into different departments on the campus the door will unlock for him. Small steps people!

For now tho let’s remove the technology problem as that’s not a problem and think about the real problem education issues, while you look at this little clip I’m going to take a free piano lesson on my smart phone to see if I’m any good at it and who knows it could be a hidden talent or i could be completely useless – but it least It’s going to be fun finding out.
