Come in, take a seat – now what seems to be the problem?

So you now know about my number two movements so we can progress to another level!  Just so you know its gotten a lot better, I swallowed a table from the magic nurse the other day and BOOM – the song I have in my head  is by the Beetles; Come Together!
Thankfully it has now started to…..

Its been a pretty miserable time lately so like a true Ostrich I’ve been looking for a nice hole to stick my head in for a bit – it was dark!  Then while trying to master seeing things in the dark I was invited to see something which picked me up, gave me a fuckin hard slap in the face dropped me back down with an almighty bump – my rock, hole, dark place call it what you like but in comparison the worries or issues I had –  they are not worries/problems/concerns!

It started a couple of days after a night out to see The Chemical Brothers, feeling a bit washed out and tired I was laying back in the hammock thinking it was all too difficult and I should just go back to bed.  Just as this was going on in the head, two girls that I met the night before stopped by to say hello.  The conversation flowed along, to be honest I was struggling a little as it was mainly in Spanish!  Fear not tho as the hours slipped by I found myself agreeing to go with them the next day to see a real part of Colombia.  They said something about writing a story and this will be the second part of it, the first part of the story was about an assassin who spent 10 years in jail and then found Jesus!

“Just need to get some sweets first then we can go” Julia says to me.

“okie dokie” I say, that’s going leave me enough time to have a coffee and wake up properly. I still don’t know what I’m going to expect but coffee is always a good idea to start with!

We get out of the cab and walk up to a normal looking door to a non de-script house in the street, as we wait for someone to open the door they tell me it is an orphanage for approximately forty children aged 3 to 15 – glad to have had my double espresso first then!  It takes all of about five minutes for the kids to lose their curiosity and then start literally ‘hanging out’ of the gringo who has funny hair.  At one point I have four children hanging off me and we are all practising our Spanish – yes their level was a lot better than mine but they enjoyed laughing at me trying to pronounce some words and helping with the difficult ones.   An hour or so goes by and then we are off to drop some of them to school and the others we bring to another house where more children stay.  So another hour or so slips by with the greatest of easy and we are done, just one last stop to make and this time we are going to meet the lady (or miracle worker) who runs the show and have a chat to her about what’s going on.

So it’s this point where it all starts becoming a little clearer to me, in fact that’s the understatement of the century! I can understand about 60/70% of the conversation – the other 30% I don’t think I want to know the whole picture!  This lady has saved these children from something a child nor person should have to live through in their entire life!

The children are from the countryside where they had to be rescued from their town because of the guerrila fighters wanting to take over the hills. One boy who was 15 had witnessed a guerrila member walk into his class room put a gun to his teacher’s head and shot her in front of the entire class, the kids were then taken outside where the rest of the town was held at gun point and one by one they had to witness the people they have known all their short lives be killed in the most horrific way.

The lady we spoke to, has been going around to these remote villages saving children and helping administer medicine for years and even now talking about the things she has seen  still affects her to this very day – but I suppose these nightmares are the ones that last a very long time and you need to be a certain person to deal with them!  But then again it never helps when you are also kidnapped for trying to do good.  Three times so far they have come for her in the middle of the night, taken her away and kept her locked up without knowing if she is going to see the light of day again!

The final part of the story or the happy ending? We all take a short walk around the corner to a house which is half ripped down – an empty shell – or another nightmare to deal with.  The house was given to them by a very generous rich person that wants to help, when they were about to move in when the government inspected the house and said that the foundations were unsafe and the place will need to be gutted and rebuilt!  So a perfect house to move into and some stupid red tape says that new houses need to be rebuilt so they can survive an earthquake – funny that, I didn’t know that they had a problem with tectonic plates in Colombia, but I  have learnt that government want to make sure that concrete companies make more money!!

I’ve spared alot of the other details from you – just because I’ll need a stronger drink to repeat them and you will need one to listen to me.  My issues, sorry no the ‘oh have pity for me – its not going my way’ problem I was having before has been kicked straight into touch.

My problem now is what can I do?
